A routing layer for bio-based industrial substitution.

About ECS

Earth Conscious Solutions exists to make the switch to bio-based industrial ingredients a defensible procurement decision rather than an act of faith. We do not make the materials. We make the comparison honest.

Who we are

We sit between the buyer and the producer, on the buyer’s side.

The bio-based materials market is full of real products and unreliable claims. A biochar producer names “certifications” without naming a single one. A resin supplier waves at “biodegradable” without a standard behind it. A mineral-filler vendor asserts “carbon negative” but buries the life-cycle assessment that would prove it. For a procurement officer, the result is the same: you cannot line the options up, so you either overpay for the safe brand or take a risk you cannot defend.

ECS was built to close that gap. We are a vendor-neutral sourcing desk for bio-based industrial ingredients across four families: biochar, bioplastic and biopolymer resins, sustainable mineral fillers, and fermented bio-actives. We do not hold inventory and we are not paid to favor one producer over another. We translate your application into a controlled specification, run one RFQ across qualified producers, verify every certification against the registry that backs it, and return a normalized side-by-side you can put in front of a review board.

The promise is narrow on purpose. We do not save the planet in a sentence and we do not leverage synergies in the green economy. We make measurable substitution a buyable decision, in tons, percentages, certificate numbers, and landed price per ton.

How we work

Three commitments that shape every engagement.

These are not values on a wall. They are the operating rules that decide which producers reach your shortlist and which claims we will not carry.

Neutral

We route to the producer that fits your spec, not the one that pays us best. No inventory, no house brand, no thumb on the scale.

Verified

Every certification is checked against its public registry, and carbon and compostability claims need a methodology, not an adjective.

Comparable

Bids come back normalized to a single landed price per ton, so the decision is about the material, not the format of the quote.

Our sustainability story

Why ECS exists, in plain language.

A belief stack makes the rest of the work coherent. Here is ours, in five parts, including the part most sustainability pages leave out: what we will not say.

Why drop-in replacement

The fastest decarbonization is the one a buyer can actually adopt. We favor bio-based materials that drop into existing equipment and processes, because a substitute that requires a new line is a substitute that does not get bought. Compostable resin that runs on the converter’s current tooling beats a theoretically superior material that does not.

A substitute nobody can deploy is not a solution. It is a press release.

Why measurable

We deal in numbers because the category is drowning in adjectives. Fixed carbon, H/Corg ratio, BET surface area, ASTM and EN compostability results, ISO life-cycle figures, landed price per ton. If an outcome cannot be measured against a named method, we treat it as marketing, not evidence.

Why third-party LCA

A carbon claim is only as good as the life-cycle assessment behind it, and a self-published LCA is a starting point, not a proof. We request the LCA, read it against the governing standard, and tell you where the scope is narrow or the boundary is convenient. We would rather flag a gap than sell around it.

Why multi-vendor

No single producer is best at everything, and a sole-source relationship quietly becomes a price you cannot benchmark. Running every spec across multiple qualified producers keeps the market honest for you, surfaces lead-time and documentation differences, and means a producer’s bad quarter does not become your supply problem.

What we will not say

We will not call a material “eco-friendly,” “all natural,” or “planet positive,” because those phrases mean nothing a procurement audit can check. We will not claim carbon removal without a registry methodology. We will not imply a certification a producer does not hold. When a producer’s claim is unverified, we will tell you it is unverified rather than dress it up. The discipline is the product.

The standards we hold claims to

Every claim resolves to a standard and a number.

We do not certify materials ourselves; we hold producer claims to the bodies that do. These are the standards we check, with the registry behind each one, before a producer reaches your shortlist.

  • ISO 14044 and 14067 for life-cycle assessment and carbon-footprint methodology, read against your governing standard.
  • ASTM D6400, EN 13432, OK Compost, BPI, TUV Austria for industrial and home compostability, with certificate numbers.
  • IBI and EBC for biochar quality, with carbon-credit methodology verified on the registry before you sign.
  • OMRI and USDA BioPreferred for organic and biobased-content procurement where the application requires it.

Work with us

If the thesis fits, start a spec.

The fastest way to understand how ECS works is to put a real application in front of it. Tell us what you are trying to source and we will turn it into a controlled specification and comparable bids.
