Fermented is a chemistry, not a label.
Most “green” cleaners are plant-based surfactant formulas. Fermented cleaners are different: they use lactic-acid and acetic-acid fermentation of plant and mineral feedstock to produce antimicrobial and biosurfactant compounds. The positioning argument for fermentation is that the active compounds and byproducts can be food-grade and avoid the petrochemical surfactant chemistry the conventional and even some plant-based categories rely on.
Whether that matters to you depends on your application, but it is a real chemical distinction, not just a marketing word. Cleaning power
A guide for hard-surface cleaning performance. A “95 percent cleaning power” claim is only comparable if two products were tested against the same named soil and surface.
OECD 425
Acute oral toxicity
Estimates the lethal dose. “Safer than salt” means the LD50 beats sodium chloride. A real safety signal for ingestion, but one dimension only, not inhalation or long-term effects.
USP 51
Antimicrobial effectiveness
A pass with zero added preservatives shows the formula resists microbial growth on its own. Relevant for buyers avoiding specific preservative chemistries, if a named lab documents it.
York 2024
Indoor-air research
A University of York study (Harding-Smith et al.) found some green cleaners emit more formaldehyde-precursor chemicals than the products they replace. Natural is not an automatic safety guarantee.
