ECS in Guatemala (coming)

Biochar, compostable materials and bio-inputs for Guatemala, documented to the standard the claim has to defend.

Guatemala is a coming market for ECS and registration is in progress. We are signing founding partners now for biochar across the country’s large agricultural base, certified-compostable packaging to EN 13432, calcium aragonite and chitosan, each matched to a named certification rather than a marketing word.

  • Registration in progress
  • Biochar for coffee, sugar, horticulture
  • Compostable to EN 13432 / ASTM D6400
  • Calcium aragonite and chitosan

No greenwashing. We do not claim an active national plastics ban (the 2019 decree was repealed in 2021) and we do not claim to be registered yet. We state the market as it is.

Why ECS, here

A vendor-neutral sourcing desk preparing to serve Guatemala.

ECS turns an application into a controlled specification and returns documented, comparable options. As ECS opens the Guatemala channel, the near-term focus is biochar for the country’s substantial agricultural base, coffee, sugar and horticulture, alongside certified-compostable packaging, biogenic calcium aragonite and chitosan, each matched to the certification the claim has to defend.

The regulatory picture is honestly mixed. Government Agreement 189-2019 sought to prohibit single-use plastics and required compostable replacements compliant with EN 13432, with a two-year adaptation window. That decree was repealed by Government Agreement 164-2021 before it took national effect, so there is no active national ban as of 2026. Some municipalities maintain their own single-use plastic restrictions, and EN 13432 remains the reference compostability standard in the region. ECS treats that as a developing market rather than a settled one, and supplies materials documented to the standard regardless of which way the national rules move.

ECS reaches Guatemala through partner and distribution channels. This is a single landing page, not a multisite storefront, and the founding-partner program is how the channel opens.

Registration in progress

  • Operating status Guatemala is a coming market. ECS registration is in progress; we are signing founding partners and do not yet claim official registration.
  • Plastics regulation Government Agreement 189-2019 sought to ban single-use plastics and required EN 13432-compliant compostable replacements, but it was repealed by Government Agreement 164-2021 before national effect. No active national ban as of 2026; some municipal restrictions persist.
  • Reference standard EN 13432 is the compostability standard the regional rules reference. ECS supplies materials certified to EN 13432 or ASTM D6400 with a resolvable certificate.
  • Product certifications We list only certificates that resolve: EN 13432 / ASTM D6400 for compostable formats; ISO 14044 / ISO 14067 for filler LCAs; IBI / EBC for biochar.
  • Documentation on request Certificates, LCAs and test reports are provided to qualified founding partners and buyers on request.

This block is a transparency statement, not legal or regulatory advice. Guatemala’s national plastics rules are unsettled and municipal rules vary; buyers remain responsible for confirming current requirements. ECS supplies the documentation to support compliance whichever way the rules move.

Buyer questions

Guatemala FAQ.

Is ECS operating in Guatemala yet?

Guatemala is a coming market for ECS. Registration is in progress and we are signing founding partners now. We do not claim to be officially registered in Guatemala yet; this page states that status plainly.

Does Guatemala ban single-use plastics?

There is no active national ban as of 2026. Government Agreement 189-2019 sought to prohibit single-use plastics and required compostable replacements compliant with EN 13432, but it was repealed by Government Agreement 164-2021 before taking national effect. Some municipal restrictions remain, and EN 13432 is still the reference compostability standard, so the national picture is developing.

What does ECS plan to supply here?

Biochar for the country’s large agricultural base (coffee, sugar, horticulture), certified-compostable packaging to EN 13432 or ASTM D6400, biogenic calcium aragonite mineral filler, chitosan, and LCA support, each matched to a named standard rather than a marketing adjective.

How can I become a founding partner?
