Chile’s single-use plastics law, Law 21.368 (“Ley PUSU”), regulates single-use plastics and plastic bottles in food establishments, and 2026 is its decisive year: the implementing Reglamento was published in the Official Gazette on 7 January 2026, and the final phase took effect on 13 February 2026. The regulation makes certification of compostable plastic products one of its three core pillars — and it draws a line ECS has always respected: certification applies to the specific product or product line, not to the material. Marketing a “compostable resin” without a product-level certificate does not satisfy the law.
