Biochar Now biochar, distributed by ECS and organized by grade.

ECS x Biochar Now

ECS is a distribution partner for Biochar Now, an industrial producer whose patented kiln-based slow pyrolysis turns clean wood feedstock into a stable, high-carbon char. We present their range the way a buyer actually decides: by grade, by the spec that governs each application, and by landed cost. One controlled RFQ returns the right Biochar Now grade, documented and ready to order.

  • Patented kiln pyrolysis
  • Chip / small / medium / powder
  • Soil, water, filler, reclamation
  • Per-batch lab report in every RFQ

A distribution partnership, not a markup. ECS adds the spec literacy and the controlled RFQ on top of Biochar Now supply.

The partnership

ECS distributes Biochar Now, by grade and on spec.

Biochar is not one product. The word covers several use-case materials that are made, tested, priced and certified differently. Soil amendment wants water-holding capacity and a friendly pH. Water filtration wants surface area and adsorption capacity. Packaging filler wants a consistent particle morphology. Reclamation wants volume and a clean feedstock chain of custody.

Biochar Now produces the char; ECS distributes it on a controlled specification. A buyer who comes to ECS gets the Biochar Now production range and the specification literacy in one place, plus the verification step that confirms the grade you receive is the grade you ordered. The four cards below are how ECS structures a Biochar Now order. For the underlying material science, see the ECS biochar technology hub.

What we distribute

Biochar Now grades, one RFQ.

Each grade is defined by the tests that matter for its job. Pick the grade, fill in the spec, and ECS sources it from Biochar Now on your terms.

Grade 1

Chip grade – soil amendment

For: agricultural soil restoration, water and nutrient retention, specialty agriculture.

The most forgiving grade on surface area and the least forgiving on contaminant content, because anything in the char ends up in the soil. ECS specifies it so the grade you receive is the grade you ordered.

  • Fixed carbon and ash, with IBI Class A as a reference
  • pH (biochar is often alkaline; wrong pH locks nutrients)
  • Particle size for water-holding and field application
  • PAH and heavy-metal ceilings written into the spec

Grade 2

Medium grade – water filtration

For: PFAS, heavy-metal, nutrient and organic-contaminant removal in industrial and stormwater treatment.

A high-surface-area char for blended, polishing and stormwater filtration roles, sourced on a verified surface-area spec rather than a brochure number.

  • BET surface area, method ASTM D6556, m2/g
  • Pore-size distribution target (micro vs meso)
  • Iodine number as adsorption proxy
  • Particle-size distribution for column hydraulics
  • Spent-media disposal pathway confirmed up front

Grade 3

Powder grade – composite filler

For: bio-filler in PLA, PHA, PE or paper composites, including carbon-negative compostable packaging.

The Biochar Now micronized powder that links biochar to the bioplastics story: a biochar-PLA composite can be both certified-compostable and carbon-negative when paired with a verified removal credit.

  • Particle morphology and bulk density
  • Polymer compatibility at 10 to 40 percent loading
  • Color stability for consumer-product consistency

Grade 4

Reclamation grade

For: land reclamation and large-area soil restoration, often bundled with a documented carbon claim.

Volume coarse char for reclamation duty. ECS writes the feedstock chain of custody and the documentation into the spec so a large buy is auditable end to end.

  • Feedstock chain of custody, documented end to end
  • Fixed carbon and a low H/Corg ratio where permanence matters
  • Per-batch lab report and transparent record

The spec sheet

The parameters ECS names in every Biochar Now RFQ.

A bid is only comparable when the spec is constant. This is the reference grid ECS writes into the RFQ before sourcing from Biochar Now.

Directional spec emphasis by grade. The named test method belongs in every filtration RFQ. Final values are confirmed on the Biochar Now per-batch lab report.
Parameter Soil Filtration Filler Reclamation
Fixed carbon Required Secondary Secondary Required
H/Corg ratio (stability) Useful Useful Minor Critical (permanence)
BET surface area (ASTM D6556) Minor Critical Minor Minor
Pore-size distribution Minor Critical Minor Minor

The ECS value-add

Why source Biochar Now through ECS.

Biochar Now brings industrial-scale production; ECS brings the specification literacy, the structure and the controlled RFQ that help a buyer order the right grade with confidence.

One controlled spec

ECS writes a single specification into every RFQ, so the grade, particle size and contaminant ceilings stay constant from quote to delivery.

Landed-price clarity

Because biochar is light and bulky, ECS normalizes every quote to one landed price per ton, so per-yard and per-ton numbers finally compare.

Verified documentation

A per-batch lab report is required in every RFQ. ECS confirms the grade you receive matches the grade you ordered before you sign.

The buyer-guide layer

ECS pairs the Biochar Now range with the spec, certification and pricing education that a producer brochure never publishes.

Partner questions

ECS x Biochar Now FAQ.

Who is Biochar Now and how does ECS distribute their biochar?

Biochar Now is an industrial biochar producer and an ECS distribution partner. Biochar Now makes the char using patented kiln-based slow pyrolysis; ECS distributes it, organizes the range by grade, and adds the spec literacy and the controlled RFQ a buyer needs to order the right grade. You get Biochar Now supply and the ECS buyer-guide layer in one place.

Which Biochar Now grades can I order through ECS?

ECS distributes the full Biochar Now range: a coarse chip grade for soil amendment and reclamation, a small grade for specialty agriculture, a medium grade for filtration and nutrient removal, and a micronized powder grade used as a bio-filler in recycled plastics. ECS organizes the range by the spec that matters for each application so you land on the correct grade quickly.

How does ECS make a Biochar Now order comparable on spec?

ECS writes one controlled specification into every RFQ, naming the parameters that decide fit: fixed carbon, the H/Corg stability ratio, BET surface area where filtration applies, particle size, pH and contaminant ceilings, plus the delivery geography. Because biochar is light and bulky, ECS normalizes every quote to a single landed price per ton so per-yard and per-ton numbers become comparable.

Can I order Biochar Now powder for recycled-plastic filler through ECS?

Yes. The Biochar Now micronized powder grade is a bio-filler that can add strength, thermal stability and a carbon-negative profile to recycled HDPE, PLA and PHA composites. ECS sources it on a spec that names particle morphology, bulk density and your polymer loading target, and links the order to the ECS biochar-as-plastic-filler and carbon-negative packaging guidance.

How do I request a wholesale quote for Biochar Now biochar?

Submit your application, target grade, fixed carbon, surface area where it applies, particle size, contaminant ceilings and delivery geography through the ECS RFQ form. ECS sources it from Biochar Now on your controlled spec and returns a documented, landed-price quote, with a per-batch lab report required before you commit.
